Drawing inspiration from the lush greenery of the neighborhood of this east facing plot, we sought to explore how light and outside greenery can be brought to the interiors of the house. We envisioned a relatively low-slung architectural expression and a strip of landscape been introduced in the front to enhance the visual green separation from the neighbor.

One enters the house through the front garden to the foyer which opens up into a double height volume of living room. Its verticality is emphasized by large floor-to-ceiling height opening with sheer beam line in between which beautifully frames the landscape. It not only connects interior space to the outside green but also brings morning soft light from the east.

The spatial flow takes into consideration of segregating public and private spaces. The ground floor has living room, puja room, dining, open kitchen, store, 1 bedroom and a family area intentionally pushed to back which extends to the outdoor backyard garden with a preserved mango tree. The upper level has 3 bedrooms and a study area viewing the double height space and the landscape through framed openings. Seamless glass railings have been used to get unobstructed landscape frames.

Building has been majorly enclosed in exposed red brick to merge into the surrounding in contrast to the minimal white colored walls and transparent glass in the perpendicular faces. Compound wall is composed of predominantly high solid walls, helping to disconnect the interior from the exterior. Small opening in form of slit is intriguing as it provides the glimpse of the house as a person passes by.

This project brings a whole new definition to the words - serenity and blending.
